• Hey Folks,

So here is the rough cut of Dead Mech, my podcast novel. As I have said before, I am still learning the audio editing software. Music, sound effects, mic quality are all part of the rough cut process. I am hoping you will be part of the process.

Sooooo, what I need from y’all:

    1. Let me know what you think. Please leave a comment (you do have to enter name and email, but that is for my records only. I won’t let you get spammed). Please be honest (constructive, not destructive). Let me know what you think about the story so far. Have I peaked your interest? Do you want to hear more? Also, let me know what you think of the mic quality and sound quality overall. If I don’t have to drop some change on a new mic right away then I can get more episodes out sooner. If you notice any grammatical errors, please let me know. Any and all info will be helpful.

    2. I need a graphic artist! Seriously, If I am going to list this podcast novel with podiobooks.com (check them out) and on iTunes, then I need a nice and gruesome Dead Mech picture to catch the eye.

    3. Spread the word. If you like what you hear, please tell people. Twitter it, email it, blog about it, Facebook it, etc. ALL press is good press. Even if you don’t like the story so far, but you like me, then do me a solid and tell evryone you know.

    4. Enjoy. Nothing else to be said about this except maybe this should be #1 on the list. I am not sure when I’ll have the next episode out, but hopefully next month some time. Trying to find time to write a novel while working and having a family can be challenging.

Thanks everyone and, as always, feel free to contact me via Twitter or email (contact info to the right.)

    THANKS!

  • Alright, so here’s the situation…

I am in the process of writing a novel called, Dead Mech (should that have quotes or be underlined? Crap, what is that rule?). It will be the World’s First Drabble Novel©.

What is a Drabble, you ask? (You did ask, you did) Well, a Drabble is a story exactly 100 words long, no more, no less. Those are the only rules. Quality is purely subjective.

How can you write a novel if you can only use 100 words? Simple, the novel will be made up of drabbles. It will have the same structure as any other novel (i.e. prologue, chapters, epilogue) but each part will be broken into scenes comprised of individual drabbles. A scene may be spread out over thirty drabbles or it could be just one drabble. I will intercut the drabbles so chapters flow from drabble to drabble without seeming like a huge info dump (except the prologue, which is usually designed to be an info dump anyway).

When will it be ready? Crap if I know. I have the Prologue done and Chapter 1 is almost complete. I expect the novel to contain about 1,000 drabbles, so I am almost 10% there.

Sounds exciting. What else can we expect? I am so glad you asked. In order to promote the novel, I will be producing it as a free podcast novel. This will help me gain exposure, gather an audience and fan base and set the stage for my world domination. Easy peasy! (I jest. Nothing is as peasy as it seems.)

What can I do to help? Wow, you guys are so on it with these questions. For now, just keep checking out my blog. I’ll keep you up to date with news, info, calls to arms, new podcast episodes. Spread the word. Shout it from the tops of buildings. Most of all, write about it, blog about it, podcast about it, Tweet about it, send carrier pigeons about it (really, do that. I expect at least one carrier pigeon to come my way before this is all done). Email me, DM me, post comments on this blog. Communicate!

So, that’s all well and good, but what do you have for me now? Oh, now you’re starting to get assertive. Well, for now, I have a rough cut (rooooooouuuuuuuggggggghhhhhhh cut!) of the prologue I am going to post. It may take me a bit, but check for the link soon. Any and all feedback is helpful. I do ask that you ignore the sound quality, though. I recorded this with a crap mike and I’m still learning how to edit, so it WILL sound like shit. I plan on re-recording the prologue with a new mic once I have it. Other than that, let me know what you think.

Thanks everyone and I look forward to talking to each and every one of you soon!

    Jake

  • The title pretty much says it all. Just playing around for now. If you stumble upon this, check back later. There’ll be some writin’ a happenin’!
