Writing In Suburbia #38: The Con Game!

    Phew! What a weekend!

Yep, I was at ConCarolinas all weekend. Great time. Got to bring the Fam, hang with some friends, meet new authors, make new friends, and make new fans. Want to know what panels I was on? Want to know what we talked about in those panels? Want some great advice on all kinds of subjects? Then have a listen, folks!

And, this will be quite the surprise, I am too tired to rant this week! This is a rant-free episode!

    Enjoy!

PS- Yes, I know I’ve used this title before. That’s how tired I am. But this time the title has an exclamation point! THAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT!

    Wake Up
    By
    Jake Bible

    “MONKEYS! RUN!”

They could not run. Not fast enough, at least. The tiny simian nightmares were everywhere. In the trees, on the roofs, jumping out from behind bushes, driving cars.

    Driving cars?

    “Carl! Wake up!” Stan shouted.

Carl’s eyes popped open in time for him to swerve the VW bus to the right, avoiding the oncoming traffic he’d drifted into.

“Whoa,” Carl said. “I had the craziest dream…”

“MONKEYS! LOOK OUT!” Stan yelled as a wave of the little buggers overtook a Cadillac and swept across the road. “THEY’RE EVERYWHERE!”

“Huh,” Carl said. “I hope I wake up.”

    He didn’t.

    Cheers!

    Friday Night Drabble Party!

    Hello!

It is Friday which means it is time to Party!

You ready for some Drabble goodness? Yes, you are!

Quick announcement first: Blood Cruise is available in audiobook! Huzzah!

Blood Cruise FixBen Clow’s plans are set. Drop off kids, pick up girlfriend, head to the marina, and hop on best friend’s cruiser for a weekend of fun at sea. But Ben’s happy plans are about to be changed by a tentacled horror that lurks beneath the waves. International crime lords! Deep cover black ops agents! A ravenous, bloodsucking monster! A storm of evil and danger conspire to turn Ben Clow’s vacation from a fun ocean getaway into a nightmare of a blood cruise!

Doesn’t that sound like ten kinds of awesome! The narrator totally rocks this production, by the way. You have got to check this one out.

    Now, onto the micro-fiction!

    Enjoy!

    Gleeful Bloodlust
    By
    Jake Bible

The champion stood over her fallen opponent.

“Submit,” she said, her voice amplified by the external loudspeakers on her mech. “Submit and you keep your machine.”

“Bite me,” the opponent replied, his voice thick with pain as he lay helpless inside his crushed cockpit. “Do your worst, but I won’t submit.”

“You’re a fool,” the champion said.

“But I’m not a coward,” the opponent replied.

“Brave means nothing when you are dead,” the champion sighed as she raised a two-ton foot and brought it down squarely on the cockpit.

The crowd roared with gleeful bloodlust. The match was won.

    Friday Night Drabble Party!

So, it is Friday once again.

Usually that means some free micro-fiction, but unfortunately that isn’t going to happen this evening. Way too much going in life and work and all that to get to the 100 words of magic.

But, hey, that doesn’t mean y’all can’t party without me!

Break out that word processor and see what 100 words you can come up with. Play, have fun, get wordy with it, yo! And, if you feel inspired, share that stuff and put a link in the comments below. Or even cut and paste your 100 words of goody goodness for all to see! Seriously, let my forum be your canvas.

    Or some other mixed metaphor.

Hope y’all have a great weekend!

Oh, and don’t forget to get your tickets to the Authors For Action: Kill The Bill event! Help fight HB2!

    Cheers!
