Writing In Suburbia #50: Keep On, Keepin’ On…

Welcome back to another episode of Writing In Suburbia. Episode #50! Woo Hoo!

In this episode I talk about how to stay motivated in the face of this hell that our country and world has become. I go into great detail, and rant quite a bit, about how hard it is to keep writing escapist fiction. I also talk about how escapist fiction is what folks are looking for.

    Did I mention the rant?

    Enjoy the episode.

    Cheers!

Writing In Suburbia #49: Adapt Or Die!!!

Finally! Another episode of Writing In Suburbia is up.

In this episode I talk about how in order to be successful in the publishing biz you have to learn to adapt. Not so much compromise, as just learn to go with the flow and tweak your outlook to be included in that flow. I touch on a lot of topics in this episode, so it’s not one to miss.

    Enjoy!

    In A Pinch
    By
    Jake Bible

If no other weapons are available, pasta will do in a pinch. Uncooked, of course.

I learned that the hard way. Or easy way. Depends on how you look at it.

Gun empty, out of extra magazines, my knife halfway across the kitchen, the kitchen’s knives on one of those goddamn magnetic strips all the way across the room, pots and pans out of reach, and three bullets in my right leg. Two in the calf, one in the thigh, if you need to know.

    That left pasta. Linguine, specifically.

The trick is to aim for the eyes.

    Job done.

    Friday Night Drabble Party!

Here we are again. You. Me. A Drabble between us. It’s like it’s fate.

Welcome back to the party, y’all. THE party. No other party going on tonight. Nope. Plenty of drinking and crying, but not much partying.

    Anyhoo…

I hope you enjoy tonight’s 100 words. Maybe they’ll inspire you. Give you a feeling of wonder. You remember that feeling, right? It’s that feeling I try to capture every time I write. But, it should be a feeling we all bring to the world every single day no matter the job.

    Bring wonder, y’all.

    Enjoy.

    Pretend For Real
    By
    Jake Bible

    “Captain! The engines are overheating!”

    “Divert power to shields!”

    “But, sir–!”

    “DO IT!”

It had come out of nowhere. The system they were exploring should have been empty, but there it was, guns blazing and on a collision course with them.

“Fire torpedoes! Blow it out of the sky!”

    “Space.”

    “What?”

    “Space. Not sky.”

“Why do you have to be such a bummer, Nick?”

The kid, Nick, about eight, turned around, the cardboard taped to his chair falling off as a bit of tape came loose.

“If we’re going to pretend then we need to pretend for real, Paul. Jeez.”

    Cheers!
