• Tis the season for a party! A DRABBLE PARTY!

Once more, 100 words have sprung from my mind and onto the page. Or screen. Wherever semi-sentient, semi-autonomous words spring to. Whatevs.

Hey, before we dive into merry making of tonight’s drabble, how about taking a look at For A Few Credits More. Great anthology and not just because I’m in it! If you dig scifi, especially military scifi, then these are the short stories for you! And for those that want more than space explosions and lots of pew pew pew, there are some amazing character-driven stories in here too (perhaps one written by yours truly). Have a look.

    Now, on with the drabble!

    Enjoy!

    Stand And
    By
    Jake Bible

    “Six elves left.”

“You sure? We leave one elf and that little bastard will rip us apart.”

    “I know my job, Prancer.”

    “Donner.”

    “What?”

    “I’m Donner.”

    “You are?”

“Jesus, Rudolph, can’t you tell us apart?”

“You’re just a bunch of dicks to me, man.”

“Sure. Born with a special nose and you think you’re above everyone.”

“Really? Are we going to do this right now? Are we? We have an elf problem here, Prancer!”

    “Donner!”

    “See previous dick comment!”

    “GRRRRRRRRRRR!”

    “ELVES! RUN!”

“Where are you going? Prancer! Donner! Whatever your name is! Stand and fight, you wimp! STAND AND––! AAAAAAAAAA!!!”

    Damn Gravel
    By
    Jake Bible

The tires crunched gravel, making Wendell cringe with obvious discomfort.

    “What’s your problem?” Horace asked.

“Hate that sound,” Wendell replied. “Like breaking styrofoam or fingers on a chalkboard.”

“What sound?” Horace asked after a couple seconds pause.

    “The gravel.”

    “The gravel?”

    “Yeah, the gravel.”

“It’s just gravel, dude,” Horace scoffed. “It’s not even close to fingernails on a chalkboard.”

Horace shook his head and frowned.

“How do you get anywhere? All these roads are gravel.”

“Different when I’m driving,” Wendell said and glared hard at Horace.

“Whatever, dude,” Horace said. “Just load the guns and forget about the damn gravel.”

    Cookbook
    By
    Jake Bible

“Bone meal…” Marigold stared at the recipe for a few seconds. “What the Hell is bone meal?”

She stepped away from the ancient and cracked cookbook. Or what her grandmother had called a cookbook. As Marigold slowly perused the book over the past few weeks, having received it in the mail after the estate was settled, she began to suspect it was more of a “cookbook”.

    “Mugwort?”

Marigold sighed. She’d heard the family rumors.

“Tears of a sullen teenager? Jesus…”

Marigold grabbed her phone. There was a grocer’s phone number in the back of the “cookbook”. Time for a call.

    No Friends
    By
    Jake Bible

Five friends went into the woods. Four friends came back.

What they saw, they never spoke about. What they did, they never told. What they experienced, they tried to forget.

Four friends went into the woods. Three friends came back.

What they saw, one of them spoke about. What they did, one of them told. What they experienced, one could never forget.

Three police squads went into the woods. No police squads came back.

Two friends found the third friend. Two friends took the third friend into the woods. No friends came back.

The woods sighed. The woods were happy.
