• Well, folks, it’s that time of year. The time where I tell you I’ll be on a bit of a hiatus until the new year comes around. I know, I know, I’m sad too.

That means tonight’s Drabble is the last of 2015. It’s a fun one. I hope you feel the cheer.

And, speaking of cheer, how about that Blood Cruise! The perfect holiday gift for the ones you love! Ebook or paperback, it’s sure to entertain for hours and hours and hours!

    Death And Holidays
    By
    Jake Bible

Detective Halstead covered her nose with the crook of her left arm while she kept her service revolver pointed forward with her right. The smell was overwhelming. Death and holidays.

“Like a rotting pine forest,” her partner, Detective Mackinaw, whispered.

They moved from the foyer to the front room and stopped in their tracks.

The tree. The Christmas tree. It was…eating them.

“Dear God…” Mackinaw whimpered as they watched the Fraser fir dig into the corpses of the poor family.

Halstead holstered her revolver, pulled out her smokes and Zippo, and gave Mackinaw a grin.

    “Let’s light it up.”

    Cheers!

Disclaimer: Oh, there’s a war on Christmas alright!

  • Such a fine Friday for a Drabble Party, don’t you think?

    YES, YOU DO!

But, before we get into the magical wonder of this week’s 100 words, how’s about I fill you in on a couple things?

BLOOD CRUISE! Just look at that cover!

Blood-cruise-ebook-coverBen Clow’s plans are set. Drop off kids, pick up girlfriend, head to the marina, and hop on best friend’s cruiser for a weekend of fun at sea. But Ben’s happy plans are about to be changed by a tentacled horror that lurks beneath the waves.

International crime lords! Deep cover black ops agents! A ravenous, bloodsucking monster! A storm of evil and danger conspire to turn Ben Clow’s vacation from a fun ocean getaway into a nightmare of a Blood Cruise!

Nothing says Happy Holidays like a bloodsucking tentacled monster!

The last thing I want to talk about is Writers Coffeehouse. This will be a monthly meeting of Asheville/WNC area writers hosted by myself and co-hosted by Nathan Ballingrud, Jamie Mason, and Beth Revis. The fine folks at Malaprop’s Bookstore/Cafe are giving us the space to meet with as many local writers as want to come. It’s a chance for writers to talk about the biz and network in a relaxed, no pressure setting. It’s all about writers helping writers. If you are interested then clickety click and check out the FB group. It’s gonna be a blast!

    Now, on to the drabble!

    Enjoy!

    Wasn’t Warm Enough
    By
    Jake Bible

The blanket wasn’t warm enough. The blanket was too warm.

Marigold shivered in the corner of the hut, her body burning with fever, her eyes glassy and dazed. She tried to focus on the world around her, but the best she could do was stare at the limp foot of her little sister. A limp foot that hadn’t moved in hours.

Not true. It hadn’t moved in days. The smell had even started to penetrate her clogged and oozing sinuses.

Marigold shivered in the corner and pulled the blanket tight around her. She was too warm. She wasn’t warm enough.

    So Many Things
    By
    Jake Bible

“Skip the rock, Horace,” Magdalena said. “Take it like this and throw.”

“I can’t, Maggie,” Horace whimpered. “Not with that thing in the pond.”

“Ignore it,” Magdalena replied. “We’re safe on shore.”

“It looks like it can reach,” Horace said, his hand shaking as he gripped the flat, round rock. “It has a lot of arms.”

“Just skip the darn rock,” Magdalena sighed. “We need to get home before dark. You know, because of the thing in the woods.”

“Yeah,” Horace said as he stared at the thing in the water.

So many things to deal with. So many things.

    Cheers!

Disclaimer: Ignore the thing in the closet. It’s shy.

  • Hurray for Friday!

Not only does it mean another work week draws to a close, it means I have loaded one more Drabble into the Drabble Cannon (patent pending) and I’m ready to launch 100 words right at your faceholes! KA-POW!

That was me launching 100 words at your faceholes, in case you didn’t get the subtext of the KA-POW. I explain because I care.

So, what all we got going on? I know I have a new release. Dead Team Alpha 2: The Stronghold is available for your ebook reading pleasure! Go download that sexy beast and find out what happens when a familiar stranger, long thought dead, comes to visit what was once Boulder, Colorado. Hmmmm….

    Twine!
    By
    Jake Bible

“Ten men! Ten Women! Nothing but open desert, a pair of shoes, and one very long piece of twine!”

“That’s right, Robert! For the fifteenth year in a row, twenty citizens will compete to the death in a hostile environment all for the glory of one very long piece of twine!”

“It’s all about the twine, Jerry! Nothing but twine tonight!”

“You don’t have to tell me, Robert! If there was ever a prize to risk your life for, it is this very long piece of twine!”

“I am so jealous right now!”

“Aren’t we all, Robert! Aren’t we all!”

    ***

    Cheers!

Disclaimer: Be not jealous, but rejoice in the twine! Stringinthians 4:13

  • It’s Friday the 13th!

In honor of this high holy day of horror, I have written something special. It’s about kittens. Killer kittens. They eat people’s faces and stuff.

Okay, no they don’t. That would be against the kitten kode. What the drabble is really about is… Well, you’ll just have to read it!

    Happy Machete Wielding Maniac Day!

    Enjoy!

    Highly Recommended
    By
    Jake Bible

“Okay, folks, let’s get the meeting started. Before we get too far into neighborhood business, I’d like to introduce our new head of gate security. Please welcome Jason.”

“What’s up with the hockey mask?”

    “That is one big machete.”

“Is that smell him? Does he live in the beaver pond or something?”

“Now, folks, we understand that maybe our choice was unconventional, but he comes highly recommended. He has a reputation of once he’s on a job he never quits. Or never dies. I forget which. Now, how about we move on to the report from the beautification committee, okay?”
